8 men arrested for alleged illegal fishing in Maribojoc municipal waters

The Maribojoc police on Thursday  took into custody eight fishermen from various Bohol municipalities who were reportedly caught illegally fishing in municipal waters of the said town.

The police authorities arrested Welben Anfone, 45; Arnold Garido, 19; John Paganao, 18; and Abondio Arapoc, 60, who are all Dauis residents.

Also apprehended were Allan Nailon, 39, and Cesar Mansueto, 47, both Tagbilaran City residents, and Danilo Paño, 31, from Baclayon and Felipe Enamac, 38, from Inabanga.

A police report noted that the said fishermen failed to present a permit for fishing activities in waters off Maribojoc prompting authorities to immediately apprehend them.

Prior to the arrest, the Maribojoc police at 6:30 a.m. received a report about the alleged illegal fishing activity conducted by the said men who were on board fishing vessel Viva Sagrada Familia 3.

Members of the Bantay Dagat immediately responded to the complaint and conducted a seaborne patrol confirming the report as the operatives spotted the said boat.

The arrested fishermen are currently detained at the lock-up jail of at Maribojoc police station awaiting charges to be filed against them. (Allen Doydora)
