UBAY. A two-day fare will usher the celebration of the 169th Foundation Day of this municipality on Thursday.

Mayor Costan Reyes said that preparations for this occasion had to be fast-tracked considering the brief stretch since his assumption to office on June 30.

Opening salvo of the commemoration bearing the theme “Ubay…Pangandoy Ko, Kauswagan Mo” will be a holy mass at 7:30 a.m. at the Sto. Niño Parish Church, to be followed by a parade to be participated by the general public.

The parade is dubbed as “Discover Ubay Float Parade Competition” focusing on the theme “Discover Ubay! The Bohol Sleeping Giant in Total Transformation,” showing to all and sundry that Ubay have a lot more to offer than what people think, to include the agricultural and tourism capabilities of the town.

Second district representative Erico Aristotle “Aris” Aumentado, Gov. Edgar M. Chatto, Vice Gov. Dionisio Balite and other provincial officials are expected to grace the affair and deliver their respective inspirational message during the commemoration program.

The Portrait of Gov. David B. Tirol at the municipal hall will be unveiled in the afternoon. This is a tribute to the ex-governor and ex-congressman who is a son by affinity of this town having married to an Ubayana, the former 3-termer board member, Dr. Amalia Reyes Tirol.

Other first day activities include the drum and lyre competition, dance competition featuring kuradang and retro. Fireworks display, championship games of the 1st Mayor Constantino Reyes Cup will be played in the evening at the Ramon Magsaysay gym to be followed by an exhibition game.

The second day fare will showcase the horse competition, pig catching, dance sport ballroom competition on Latin American and pop dance, karambola, trisikad, and motor guyod race and zumba.

A grand disco featuring the Centerstage live band will climax the celebration. (Wenny Reyes)
