Around 200 militants from various groups gathered in Tagbilaran City on Friday to hold a protest rally against various issues including increase in school tution, US involvement in state affairs and the lack of a genuine land reform program.

The group comprised of the Hukbo sa Mag-uumang Bol-anon, Bayan-Bohol, Kabataan, Anakpawis, Anakbayan and, human rights group Karapatan converged at the Cogon Shrine in Tagbilaran City.

They then held a march-rally toward CPG Avenue near the City Square.

Group leaders said that protesters were calling for the suspension of the K to 12 program and voicing out complaints against the increase of school tuition.

The rallyists also expressed support for peace talks between the government and the New People’s Army-National Democratic Front and the campaign against criminality.

They also denounced contractualization, US involvement in state affairs and the Chatto administration in relation to unanswered calls for a genuine land reform program.

The protest rally ended peacefully with no reported incidence of violence and altercations. (Rey Tutas)
