Application for the government’s senior high school voucher program (SHS-VP) which subsidizes the tuition of some students enrolled in private schools is expected to resume in Bohol, said a Department of Education (DepEd) official.

According to Wilfreda Bongalos, DepEd Bohol division superintendent, the program is intended to support students who want to be enrolled in private schools but lack finances.

Only current grade 10 students are qualified to apply for the program and those eligible will be divided among automatic beneficiaries and voucher applicants, Bongalos said.

The program was designed to provide quality basic education and options to students in choosing their educational paths.

It was also intended to provide relief from the financial impact of the newly implemented senior high school segment to both families of students and schools.

However, Bongalos noted that they are still waiting for guidelines on the implementation of the said program in Bohol from the DepEd 7.

DePed had previously announced that it will extend support to those who finished grade 10 and qualified should they choose to enroll in non-DepEd schools. (Allen Doydora)
