The Tagbilaran City traffic bureau is considering the implementation of a “one-way traffic loop system” as part of its bid to decongest several streets particularly in the central area of the province’s capital.

According to Tagbilaran City Traffic Management Office (CTMO) chief Tony Samante, they are planning to apply the one-way loop system along Gallares Street which is among the busiest roads in the city.

Heavy traffic has been reported in the said street particularly during rush hour as the narrow two-lane road leads to several establishments such as malls and hospitals.

Samante who projected that the system would ease traffic in the area urged the Sangguniang Panlungsod to study the CTMO’s proposal.

The traffic management official also noted that the system can also be implemented in other narrow streets in the central part of the city.

However, Councilor Eliezer Borja said that the one-way loop currently cannot be implemented due to several ongoing construction of roads in Tagbilaran City.

The immiediate implementation of the system would only worsen traffic congestion, added Borja.

The councilor said that the there is an ordinance on the loop system but was not implemented due to the repair of several roads in the city. (Allen Doydora)
