The Department of Environment and Natural Resources already allocated P51.86 million the for implementation of Enhanced National Greening Program in Bohol

This includes P31.83 million budget for 2018 for the rehabilitation of 1,100 hectares of open and denuded forestland in the province.

Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer (PENDRO) Nestor Canda said the implementation includes maintenance and protection of established plantation.

Canda recently presented the list of DENR priority programs, projects and activities to the Provincial Development Council (PDC).

The Enhanced National Greening Program is under the Forest Development, Rehabilitation and Maintenance and Protection.

For 2017, the DENR allocated P13 milion for the rehabilitation of 4,545 hectares of open and denuded forestland in Bohol.

The budget for 2016 was P7.03 million for 2,015 hectares.

For the rehabilitation of a total of 7,660 hectares of open and denuded forestland from 2016-2018, the DENR allocated P51.86 million, according to Canda.

The undertaking entails plantation maintenance and protection to ensure that trees are not only planted but grown.

DENR designed the reforestation and rehabilitation activities to “restore the forestlands which involves establishment of plantation areas as safeguard against  soil erosion,  landslides, floods and others”.

In line with this, the DENR implements the Soil and Water Conservation Program which includes the establishment of small water impounding system (SWIS) in Loboc Watershed with a budget of P3 million.

The restoration program for national forest and landscape has been allocated with P25 million, and the forest boundary line planting of raintree gets P2 million.

Canda added that DENR also collaborates in the management  of coastal and marine resources areas, and protection and conservation of wildlife.

Protection for tarsier in entire province gets P5 million budget.

DENR also spends P15 million for the pilot testing of coastal and marine environment comprehensive management plan where there is baseline or benchmarking assessment inventory conducted at the Danahon Double Barrier Reef.

Canda also reported that DENR allocated P168.83 million for the implementation of sustainable integrated area development and management under the National Convergence Initiative for Sustainable Rural Development (NCI-SRD).

The activities to be undertaken under the program include the establishment of a 500-hectare bamboo plantation and 200-hectare Ilang-Ilang plantation in Carood Watershed; establishment of small water impounding systems and small farm reservoirs in Carood Watershed; establishment of a 200-hectare bamboo plantation and 200-hectare Ilang-Ilang plantation in Abatan Watershed; and establishment of small water impounding systems in Abatan Watershed.
