Civil Service extends deadline for exams

The Central Office of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) has decided to extend the deadline of submission of application forms from September 6 to September 11, 2012 for applicants who wish to take part the civil service paper and pencil test slated October 21 next month.

This was according to CSC Provincial Director Elizabeth Mateo in an interview by the Chronicle last Friday.

“The Central Office has decided to extend the deadline of submission the application forms in order to give chance to Boholanos who are willing to take the exam”, Mateo said.

Mateo further said that as of last Friday, the CSC already surpassed their target of 2,230 applicants as there are already 2,300 Boholanos who submitted their application forms. However, the CSC here will still continue to accept application forms until Tuesday this week.

The deadline of submission of the application forms was originally being set last Thursday September 6 wherein the CSC staffs have to be in their office and at their sub-office in the Island City Mall until past seven o’clock in the evening just to accommodate the “deadliners”.

“This is an opportunity for the Boholanos who wish to take part of the exam as they have still until Tuesday to file in our office”, Mateo said.

The Civil Service Provincial Director explained that the upcoming exam is called as a paper and pencil test because it is a simultaneous test nationwide. The paper and pencil test is totally different from the computer assisted test as the latter is not done simultaneously. The paper and pencil test examinees have to wait 60 days after the examination before knowing the result while the computer assisted examination renders result immediately after the exam.

Those who wish to take part of the examination should be 18 years old on or before the deadline of filing. Applicants have to submit four copies of ID pictures with specifications of a Philippine Passport Size, colored with white background and should be taken within three months prior to the filing of application. The photo should be close-up shot or from shoulder level up with the head and face occupying at least 80% of the picture with the name tag positioned at approximately 1 inch below the chin. The photo should also bear the full name and signature over printed name.

Applicants are also required to submit original and photocopy of any valid ID containing the applicants’ clear picture, date of birth, his/her signature and the signature of the authorized head of the issuing agency.

The examination fee is at P500 while the venue of the exam is either at the University of Bohol or at Dr. Cecilio Putong National High School.

During the filing, an applicant has to choose between sub-professional or professional type of examination.

Mateo explained that civil service eligibility is a requirement if a person wishes to join the government from first level position and above.

Meanwhile, students who graduated with honors are exempted from taking the civil service examination. However, they have to fill-up forms at the CSC and have to submit necessary requirements such as certification from the school that indeed the person graduated with honors.(Anthony R. Aniscal)
