COMMUNITY BILLBOARD: Kart racing hits bohol

The first kart racing in Bohol flagged off yesterday at the Panglao Kartways in Bolod, Panglao dubbed by race organizers as the "Monaco of the Visayas" with 19 kart racers from the Visayas.

Referring to the world famous Circuit de Monaco which is a concrete race course with tight turns, organisers were challenged by Panglao Kartway tight confines and tight corners.

The second leg of the 2013 Kartzone SuperKart Series was held for the first time outside Cebu with three time Karter of the year Calderon leading a pack of ten top notched racers competing in the Novice, Masters and Experts category.

But novice Vince Rojo stunned a wildly cheering crowd after winning the penultimate race in the KT category mixed class in 3 mins. 19.051 seconds as he raced away from the pack beating Karter of the Year Jette Calderon by a lap and Joseph Rojo who landed 3rd after both figured twice in a collision in the middle of a tight race.

JT Gullas came in second as Rojo gained 25 points going into the next leg.

Kim Lingenco, manager of Kartzone Cebu in interview on DYRD said " I never expected to hold such kind of race here in Panglao. Its just awesome with a big crowd watching the races".

Visibly impressed by the quality of the only concrete paved track among the five tracks in the Philippines, Racing chief Lord Seno told the Chronicle "we will promote this track as technically challenging. compared to Cebu, we have only a 600 meter long asphalt racetrack with only seven turns".

The championship leg will be raced in Panglao this coming October, according to Seno.

The one kilometer long kartway, rated  an 8 in a ten scale degree of difficulty also tested the racing mettle of six racers for the novice and expert class

But three minirok and cadet entries stole the show when 11 yr. old from Loon, Jarond Mesina, 10 yr. Filipino Canadian from Cebu Liam Sacal and 5 yr old Seven Aleman bucked the 12 hairpin turns on 80 cc engine powered karts.

Sacal finished the 9 lap race with a time of 7mins. 46.031 secs. besting Mesina by a hairline 0.877 secs.

Dr. Doloreich Dumaluan, owner of the family managed kartway personally handed the championship cups to the winners of the first kart race in Bohol. (CMV)
