Tagbilaran City made an unprecedented accomplishment after she rose to be one of the country’s most competitive cities.
From 129th slot, the city jumped by 101 notches higher placing her now at number 28 in the competitiveness scale in the national level. In fact, the city’s government efficiency was ranked number 1 in Central Visayas in terms of development.
DTI Regional Director Aster Caberte took note of this sterling performance of Mayor Baba Yap as far as governance efficiency is concerned. She challenged all other towns and cities to match up what Tagbilaran City has achieved. The Competitiveness Scale scores are derived from three components, Economic Dynamism, Infrastructure and Government Efficiency. It is patterned after the rankings conducted by the World Economic Forum (WEF) which ranks the competitiveness of countries.
WEF rankings are credible references of banks and investment companies in the identification of new business locations. The National Competitiveness Council (NCC) has partnered with the Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Finance, National Economic and Development Authority, Department of Energy, Ayala Foundation, Jollibee Foods, Shell Companies, and JG Summit Holdings for the conduct of the program.
