Tagbilaran ranks 2nd in collection in Central Visayas

Out of the 16 cities in Region VII, Tagbilaran City got second place in collection efficiency with 112.59% rating, besting the highly urbanized cities such as Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu City and Mandaue City.

The collection efficiency was based on the annual target raised by a certain local government unit from local income sources: Business Tax, Fees and Charges, and Economic Enterprise. The collections from the Economic Enterprise registered 125.67% efficiency rating with an actual collection of P40,791,605.00 as against its annual target of P32,460,515.00 which earned us the No. 1 rank in the entire Region VII.

It maybe recalled that upon assumption of office by City Mayor John Geesnell “Baba” Yap last July 2013, the Economic Enterprise Unit was in shambles registering zero collection in the Integrated Bus Terminal.But since Mayor Yap took the helm in City Hall, the City Economic Enterprise has ranked highest among the 16 cities in the region this year. In the Business Taxes, Tagbilaran City ranked 4th with 110.36% efficiency rating, topping Dumaguete City, Cebu City, Mandaue City and Lapu-Lapu City. In the area of Fees and Charges, Tagbilaran City again has exceeded its annual target with a collection efficiency rating of 106.53% ranking 7th in the whole of Region VII.

In the over-all ranking, combining the total collections in the Economic Enterprise, Fees & Charges and Business Taxes, Tagbilaran City has exceeded its annual target of Php185, 335,922.00 for 2014, with actual collections amounting to Php208, 666,070.00, exceeding its 2014 annual target of Php233, 301.48 and posting a collection efficiency rating of 112.59% placingTagbilaran City in secondplace out of the 16 cities in Region 7.

In Real Property Collections, Tagbilaran City also made it on top with131.69% collection efficiency rating for 2014 with actual collections of Php80,207,205.51 as against its annual target of Php60,906,306.00 asTagbilaran City ranked 4th in the whole of Central Visayas.

The Bureau of Local Government Finance Regional Director Herminigilda G. Garsulahighly commended City Mayor  Yap for having surpassed all the collection targets for the four local income sources for the period of January 1 to December 31, 2014. Director Garsula extended her gratitude to all the local officials for their exemplary performance, invaluable contribution, selfless support and commitment under Mayor Yap’s leadership.

All these remarkable achievements of the City Government are an affirmation of Mayor Yap’s commitment to effective, efficient and excellent quality front-line services, which is in line with the City Mayor’s advocacy of transparency and accountability in governance.
