Part of the thousands of aftershocks
Bohol, like the other areas of the country, had been shaken by mild quakes in the past two days—following a magnitude 5.3 earthquake in China.
Guizhou and Quimeng areas in China recorded a magnitude 5.4 earthquake at 1:47 a.m. and Southeastern China with magnitude 5.3 last Monday, and different areas in the Philippines followed.
Later at 9:47 a.m. on Monday, Phivolcs recorded a magnitude 4.7 earthquake of tectonic origin in Bohol, tracing the epicenter at eight kilometers east of Buenavista town, with depth of three kilometers.
Phivolcs recorded an magnitude 5 quake in San Miguel in Bohol; while being felt at intensity 4 in Tagbilaran in Bohol and also in other areas in neighboring provinces like Lapulapu City and intensity 3 in Iloilo City, Bacolod City; and intensity 1 in Roxas, Capiz.
Yesterday, Phivolcs recorded another quake at magnitude 3.2 in Bohol at 7:54 a.m. with epicenter at around 20 kilometers from Talibon.
Phivolcs also described it to be of tectonic origin with depth of 39 kilometers.
No damages were reported during the recent tremor which Phivolcs said are still part of the thousands of “aftershocks” after the Magnitude 7.5 quake which hit badly hit the province in October 2013.
Yesterday’s earthquake was also felt in Cebu at intensity 2 and in Lapulapu City at intensity 1.
Phivolcs also recorded a magnitude 2.9 earthquake in Bayabas, Surigao del Sur yesterday.
Engr. Nolan Evangelista of the Philvolcs here, however, said the quakes felt in the past two days were still aftershocks of the magnitude 7.2 earthquake that hit Bohol on October 15, 2013.
