The colorful “Saulog” street dancing competition will unfold at 3 o’clock this afternoon on what is expected to be a much improved version of a madre gras that Boholanos often see during fiesta celebrations.
“I want the people of Tagbilaran feel their involvement and enthusiasm to promote the city as the gateway of Bohol which is now a prime tourist destination.” said Mayor John Gessnell Baba Yap who stirred the city into this new tourism-oriented activities, in support of the forthcoming grand homecoming of Boholanos this July.
“We want to let the people be aware that we are part of Bohol’s glory in tourism development, thus we lined up these activities,” he told The Chronicle on the eve of the second edition of city based street dancing.
The 15 barangays in the city will be sending their big contingents to vie for the cash reward.
The other day, the city held the grand finals of “Mutya sa Tagbilaran” which had a cast of celebrities in the board of judges led by actress model Ruffa Guiterrez, America’s next Top Model, Alison Harvard and Bb Pilipinas Intercontinental 2014 Kris Tifanny Hanson. (See: separate story)
Today’s madre gras will be at the Carlos P. Garcia Sports Complex starting at 3 o’clock this afternoon .
Tomorrow will the unique fiesta fellowship at the “KUmbira sa Tagbilaran” at the City public Market while “The Voice Grand Finals” will be staged at the City Square at 3:30pm.
Nightly concerts and performances will be staged until Thursday, vesper day. Bohol Quality Night on Tuesday, and Alturas Night on Thursday, both at the City Square.
“Saulog in Concert” will be staged on Tuesday night at the Bohol Wisdom School gym.
The traditional fluvial procession will be on Wednesday, at the City Fish Port terminal in sitio Ubos.
On the city fiesta this Friday, Bishop Leonardo Medroso will be the main celebrant during the Pontifical Mass at the St. Joseph Cathedral at 10:00am with Msgr. Jeffrey Malanog, parish priest and vicar general to led the con-celebrating priests from the various parishes.
A diana in the city’s 15 barangays will wake up residents at 4 ‘clock dawn while the night will be capped with the “Baba Yap Got Talent” at the City Square at 8:00pm.
The summer basketball tournament “Mayor Yap Open Basketball” opens on Saturday.
