Bohol First District Representative Rene L. Relampagos assured the Boholano public as well as the local and foreign tourists regarding Bohol’s safety after shooting incidents have been reported in the province, particularly in Tagbilaran City.

“It is quite alarming that shooting incidents are reported almost every week.  But I assure the tourists that are here in the province and even those that are planning to explore our islands, Bohol is very peaceful.  Bohol is still very safe.”

The solon is concerned on how the recent shooting incidents, including high profile cases, have caused the Boholanos to question the peacefulness of the province.  This was reflected in the Bohol Poll result when the provincial government received a +25 rating on the issue of protecting life and property, the lowest in five years.  Tagbilaranons, particularly, gave a mark of +22.

“The local government is working hard to assure everyone’s safety.  We are trying to maintain our status as a prime eco-cultural destination which is not only rich in sights and culture but also a peaceful and safe place for everyone,” Relampagos, who sits as Chairman of the House Committee on Tourism, said.

While he gave his thumbs up to local governments and the local police, the congressman also urged these institutions to strengthen their campaign to put an end on these shooting incidents before certain industries, like tourism, are affected by the increased criminality.
