Businessman, civic leader George Lao died at the Ramiro Hospital past 7 o’clock last night due to cardiogenic shock. He was 78.
The patriarch of Gie Gardens Hotel and the original Momo Beach Resort, Lao was one of the pioneers in Bohol’s tourism industry.
He joined politics serving as Tagbilaran City councilor and ex-officio board member representing the Philippine Councilors League (PCL) at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.
He was one of the pillars of Jaycees in the province. Lao was one of the pioneer members of the Brotherhood of Christian Businessmen & Professionals (BCBP) in Bohol.
His remains lie in state at Gomez Funeral Homes.
Interment is slated at the Victoria Memorial Park on Saturday with a requiem mass at the St. Joseph Cathedral.
He is survived by his children Aissa and Jesus Mercader, Dodin and Tata Lao, Nickoy and Glenda Lao, grandchildren AJ, Simon, Janika, Justine, Gordon, Jessica, Julianne, Gideon and Devin. His wife, Dr. Gie Lao died last year.
The deceased is the older brother of businessman Eli and wife, Prued Lao.
