City Mayor John Geesnell “BABA†Yap’s goal of attaining sound financial management has indeed come to reality. For the past two years, Tagbilaran City has been cited by the Bureau of Local Government Finance (BLGF) headed by its Regional Director Herminigilda Garsula for its outstanding Tax Collection Efficiency. A year after Mayor Yap’s assumption in office, Tagbilaran City was commended for exemplary performance when the City Treasurer’s Office surpassed the LGU collection target for Business Tax with an efficiency rating of 104.96% last July 2014. In terms of efficiency collection in Real Property taxes, Tagbilaran City also surpassed its target, getting 103.75% efficiency rating.
This year 2015, recognizing all the integrated efforts of the City Treasurer and City Assessor’s Office, Mayor Yap is proud that Tagbilaran City has once again surpassed its tax collection efficiency in the 3rd Quarter of this year landing in 1st place with 140.29% efficiency rating in the whole of Region 7 in Real Property Tax Collection, followed by Bayawan, Cebu City, Mandaue, Dumaguete, Toledo,Bais, Danao, Lapu-Lapu and Tanjay.
Tagbilaran City has already collected real property taxes amounting to Php 66,173,986.98 just after 9 months this year. It already surpassed its annual target of Php58, 960,736.00 for 2015.
Mayor Yap attributed the positive performance of the City Government to the collective efforts of the different departments and to the trust and support of the Tagbilaranons.
