* Cop kills cop

PNP Prov’l Director Dennis Agustin issued yesterday his stern warning against erring cops especially after the PNP image in the province was recently tarnished with the death of two cops who shot each other in Sikatuna town last Monday.

Agustin expressed dismay on what happened to two of his cops last Monday even as a full dress investigation continues on the incident.

The warning of the provincial PNP chief likewise came as preparations are on for the coming New Year’s Day celebration. Cops were asked never to do an indiscriminate firing of their guns to “welcome the new year.” The entire PNP command in the province is on alert to ensure a peaceful welcoming of the new year.

A member of the Tourist Police Unit identified as one PO2 Marlon Balbiran died after being shot by another cop whom he attacked at around 9 o’clock yesterday morning.

According to initial investigation, PO2 Balbiran, a member of the tourist police unit assigned at the Tarsier Sanctuary in Corella, suddenly arrived at the kitchen at the back portion of the police station of Sikatuna where the SPO2 Fidel Malig-on was with two other cops.

SPO2 Malig-on, who is assigned at the Sikatuna Police Station was with  PO3 Al Noel Felecia another cop then,

PO2 Balbiran confronted SPO2 Malig-on, saying why he embarrassed his as he fired at SPO2 Malig-on.

PO3 Felecia took his firearm and fired a warning shot at PO2 Balbiran to prevent him from shooting again. But PO2 Balbiran remained aggressive, prompting him to shoot PO2 Balbiran.

PO2 Balbiran was hit in the head and died.

SPO2 Malig-on, who sustained a gunshot wound in the stomach, died at around 4 o’clock in the afternoon at the hospital.
