CEBU CITY. - A 20-year old Boholano grabbed the title of World Boxing Organization (WBO) youth featherweight after he defeated a Mexican boxer during the “Pinoy Pride 35: Stars of the Future” held at the Waterfront Cebu Hotel and Casino last night.
Mark “Magnifico” Magsayo, a resident of Booy district, this city proved to be much better than the defending title holder, Mexican Eduardo Montoya whom he defeated by unanimous decision.
Both registered at 125 lbs with Magsayo (12-0, 10 KOs) while Montoya 17-4, 13 KOs).
Magsayo is the unbeaten IBF Youth featherweight champion of the famed ALA Boxing Gym.
Their match against Mexican Montoya was dubbed as the “Battle for Future Stars of Boxing.”
Magsayo got more inspiration while in the ring knowing that he was having the support from no less than Tagbilaran City Mayor John Gessnell Baba Yap who personally watched the fight together with City Administrator Edi Borja and City Councilor Bebin Inting.
After proclaimed as the new WBO youth featherweight title holder, Magsayo went down from the ring to thank Mayor Yap who was seated with the audience in a jampacked crowd.
Mayor Yap congratulated the Tagbilaranon boxer while putting all his belief that Magsayo will further shine as a boxer.
Another Flipino boxer “Prince” Albert Pagara also grabbed the title from title holder, Nicaraguan Yesner Talavera to win the WBO intercontinental junior featherweight crown.
“Pinoy Pride 35” is another joint undertaking of ALA Promotions Inc and ABS-CBN Sports.
