A total of 19 fire incidences in the province have been reported last March, a month deemed nationwide as the Fire Prevention Month, according to the Bohol Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
Of the 19 fire incidences in Bohol including Tagbilaran City, eight were residential and seven were grassfires. Two houses used commercially, one vehicle, and a resort room were also reported to have been scorched during the month.
The BFP noted however that the number of cases in March this year was relatively lower by 8 incidences compared to the same month last year, as 27 fires in the province were reported then.
According to the BFP, damages caused by fires last year were also mostly results of residential fires and grassfires.
This month, fires continue to break out throughout the province, but the BFP has not tallied the number of incidences during the month of April so far.
On April 12, 2016, a brush fire broke out in the town of Danao, damaging three hectares of private land.
Another fire was reported in Barangay San Isidro, Tagbilaran City last Tuesday. The incident which burned a house in the village however was suspected to be an arson case.
As fires continue to break out during the sweltering summer months in the country, the BFP said that Boholanos should take extra caution to prevent accidentally igniting fires that may cause damages to property or even take lives. (with reports from Allen Oyetto)
