Two days away from the elections, the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) leadership in Bohol still has not officially announced which local candidates the religious sect is supporting in the May 9 polls.
The INC already announced who the group is endorsing in the presidential, vice-presidential and senatorial races, but the local leadership of the sect has remained quiet on who it will be supporting for the local elections.
Those chosen by the religious group which has a strong 1.7 million registered voters are supposed to get the bloc vote of the INC.
The sect’s members in the province are now just waiting for the official instructions of the INC central office if it will make a public announcement on who they will be endorsing in the local races, Joel Arias of INC Bohol told DYRD Balita in a phone interview.
However the INC has already started to spread to its members a list of the names of the candidates to serve as guide to its flock.
Arias did not reveal the total number of INC members in Bohol who are registered voters.
In an official announcement, the INC endorsed Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte for president and Sen. Bonbong Marcos for vice president. The religious sect’s senatorial votes will supposedly go to Joel Villanueva, Dick Gordon, Franklin Drilon, Risa Hontiveros, Francis Tolention, Martin Romuladez, Ralph Recto, Manny Pacquiao, Vicente Sotto, Win Gatchalian, Panfilo Lacson, and Migz Zubiri.
During elections candidates seek the INC’s support because of its bloc-vote system and large membership. (with reports from Allen Doydora)Â
