The feared bell-to-bell congressional race between re-electionist Rep. Art Yap and former Mayor Carmen Mayor Cheche Toribio delos Reyes did not come out as a close fight, if we count the number of towns where the lady congressional bet won.
As of 1:00am today, Yap pooled 104,607 votes as compared to delos Reyes’ 78,587 votes, per unofficial election returns compiled by the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PCCRV).
The third district has 272,560 registered voters.
Of the 19 towns in the 3rd congressional district, de los Reyes won only in Anda and in her hometown of Carmen.
Even before the start of the campaign period, de los Reyes was already reported to be “buying out” the leaders of Rep. Yap. This caused the defection of known Yap town and barangay leaders including Bilar Mayor Tata Palacio, a known long time ally of the re-electionist congressman.
Ten mayoralty bets who supported de los Reyes were expected to be proclaimed as winner anytime today.
They are Loboc Mayor Helen Alaba, Bilar Mayor Norman Palacio, Carmen Mayor Ricardo Toribio, Sevilla Mayor Juliet Dano, Sierra Bulones Mayor Simplicio Maestrado, Jr., Anda Vice Mayor Inday Simacio, Guindulman Mayor Maria Fe Piezas, Garcia Hernandez Mayor Tita Gallentes, Dimiao Mayor Danny Guivencan and Loay’s RB Imboy.
Yap had nine of his town mayoralty bets won, namely Batuan’s Antonino Jumawid, Pilar Mayor Nita Cubrado, Alicia Mayor Marnilou Ayuban, Candijay Mayor Toper Tutor, Mabini Mayor Juanito Jayoma, Duero Mayor Connie Amparo, Jagna Mayor Bicbic Abrenilla, Valencia Mayor Maria Katrina Lim and Lila Mayor Rina Salazar.
Yap won in 17 towns (out of 19) even in the 10 towns whose winning mayoralty bets lined up with de los Reyes.
