Despite the much vaunted well-oiled and battle scarred Liberal Party (LP) juggernaut in Bohol, an overwhelming 303,468 votes for Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Laban (PDPLBN) presidential candidate Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte swamped LP presidential standard bearer, Mar Roxas’ 196,045 votes.
The dominating victory of Duterte over Roxas in what is considered an LP bailiwick was a marked difference from the results of the vice presidential race that saw the LP’s Leni Robredo scoring a convincing win over Duterte’s running mate Alan Peter Cayetano 266,369 to 163,872 votes.
This was the official result from the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) after a much delayed count caused by transmission problems from the municipalities and glitches from secure digital (SD) cards from two municipalities – Sierra Bullones and Lila.
The official COMELEC results covered the 46 towns and Tagbilaran City except Lila with 6,835 registered voters in 18 clustered precincts.
The voting pattern for the presidential and vice presidental race hued closely to the survey results of the Holy Name University Bohol Poll Pre-Election Round 2016 that showed a Duterte-Robredo winning combination.
Duterte thumped Roxas by wide margin of 107,423 votes while Robredo outstripped Cayetano with a 102,497 difference.
Results of the other presidential candidates- Poe – 66,828; Binay 42,008, Santiago 5,917 and the deceased Seneres 435.
For the vice presidential race – Marcos 78,287, Escudero 53,091, Trillanes lV 10,544 and Honasan 9,785.
Tabulation of votes for the senators and party list are still ongoing at the COMELEC tabulation center at the Benigno Aquino Session Hall of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, Capitol Complex. (Chito M. Visarra with reports from Rey Tutas)
