However, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Atmospheric Services Administration (PAG-ASA) Administrator Vicente Malano told DYRD “Inyong Alagad” on Monday, May 23, 2016 that the thunderstorms were temporary and the hot and dry weather will be back next week.

Malano, who hails from Alburquerque said that the rains were due to an inter-tropical convergence zone (ITZ) and the initial transition to the dominant weather system in the country which is the southwest monsoon.

However, Malano warned that the dreaded La Nina, the opposite of El Nino, known to spawn torrential rains for several days has been monitored in the Pacific Ocean and will most likely hit the country at the end of the year. (Chito M. Visarra)
