Although hinting that the existence of a deposit holding such a whopping amount seems far-fetched, Governor Edgar Chatto assured the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted if more information regarding a reported Bohol official’s bank account which allegedly contains $81 million is bared.
Chatto addressed the issue on his weekly “Kita og ang Gobernador†program after another local newspaper and a radio station published and aired the story indicating that a Boholano politician has a bank account containing $81 million or roughly P3.7 billion.
According to the report, an unidentified woman made a transaction at a local bank and was mistakenly given another person’s bank book by the teller.
She was reportedly astonished to see that the bank account contained the said amount and was under a provincial official’s name.
The woman then relayed the story to her priest brother who told the media of the said incident which was immediately published and broadcasted.
Chatto, along with Provincial Administrator Alfonso Damalerio, challenged those who started the story to divulge the official’s identity to spare others from being put in a bad light because of the dubious allegation.
The governor asked those who reported the story to disclose the name of the woman who reportedly discovered the said bank account and the name of the bank so an investigation may be conducted to determine the veracity of the allegation.
The story would remain to be considered as fabricated until a name and more information are divulged, he added.
Chatto also said that the Sangguniang Panlalawigan should conduct a probe on the issue and invite those who released the report at a session to ferret out the truth or put an end to the claim. (with reports from Allen Doydora)
