Cebu’s suspected number one drug lord is now a source of information which could strengthen the authorities’ crackdown on illegal drug trade in the region for the National Bureau of Investigation after he surrendered to NBI-Bohol agents last Tuesday.
Alvaro “Barok†Alvaro who is also a murder suspect divulged “significant information” to the agency, said Atty. Reynan Augustus Oliva, agent-in-charge of NBI-Bohol field office, in an interview with DYRD Balita.
However, Oliva did not specify if the information included details on alleged drug protectors in government or any other specific account from Alvaro.
The NBI would not reveal specific details for now as Alvaro’s statements would still have to undergo verification, Oliva said.
From Manila, Alvaro was transported back to Cebu to face media in a press conference set by NBI-7 Regional Director Atty. Jose Yap yesterday morning in Cebu City.
According to the authorities, Alvaro was brought to a court in Danao City, Cebu to face Judge Jerry Dicdican of the Regional Trial Court Branch 7 who issued the warrant for his arrest.
Alvaro was the prime target of a police operation in Las Pinas, Rizal on June 17, 2016, but he escaped while his companions, alleged Central Visayas drug lord Jeffrey “Jaguar†Diaz and his bodyguard Paul Vincent Morales, were killed in a shootout against the police at Pilar Village, Barangay Almanza in the said city.
