The provincial government of Bohol is mulling the establishment of a rehabilitation center in the island town of President Carlos P. Garcia in the second district to provide an adequate facility for treating the slew of drug addicts in the province.
Provincial Administrator Alfonso Damalerio in a press conference said that the town was strategically chosen so patients’ recovery will not be interrupted in the far-flung and secluded area.
The proposed project was first brought up during the strategic planning workshop of the provincial government which was also attended by representatives from hospitals in Bohol.
Vice Governor Dionisio Balite, the presiding officer of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, has also announced his support for the provincial initiative for the rehabilitation of drug users.
According to Damalerio, Â the Office of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development is also preparing programs and intervention initiatives for both drug users and pushers who have surrendered to authorities and vowed to stop their involvement in illegal drugs.
Based on reports from police of various towns in the province, more than 10,000 drug personalities have surrendered to authorities as of July 9, 2016. (with reports from Rey Tutas)
