A farmer was shot to death Sunday evening, July 24, 2016 during a drinking session in a sari-sari store in Barangay Estaca, Pilar by a former security guard of the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), police authorities said.
Police Officer 2 Francisco Amila, investigator of the Pilar Police Station, told DYRD Balita that gunfire broke out after Ariel Barrios Marigmen, a 24-year-old a farmer, and Edgar Chan, 42, got into a heated argument that ended in the fatal shooting.
According to Amila, Chan who is now also a farmer pulled out a .357 handgun and attempted to fire at Marigmen, but was blocked by a village security officer (tanod).
The suspected gunman left the store but came back armed with a caliber .22 firearm and shot Marigmen in the head and chest resulting in his immediate death, according to the police.
Chan fled the scene of the crime and was taken into custody by elements of the Jagna Police Station in Barangay Larapan, Jagna after residents reported the presence of a suspicious looking person in the area.
The suspect is now detained at the Pilar Police Station awaiting charges for homicide and violation of RA 10591 known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act. (Chito M. Visarra and Rey Tutas)
