The Department of Labor and Employment in partnership with the Bohol Tripartite Industrial Peace Council (Bohol-TIPC) and the National Conciliation-Mediation Board – Region 7 (NCMB-7), recently conducted an interactive learning session on General Labor Standards and Grievance Handling, among others, at JJ’s Seafood Village, Tagbilaran City.
Bohol TIPC, chaired by Tagbilaran City Mayor John Geesnell Yap, II, invited its members and other non-member establishments to participate in the event. Around 70 company-representatives attended the event. Such support on the council’s event was highly commended by OIC German A. Guidaben of DOLE Bohol during his welcome message.
Senior Labor and Employment Officer Rene A. Sabornido of NCMB-7 shared her knowledge on Grievance Handling thru Labor-Management Council. She stressed that maintaining industrial peace is very important in enhancing the productivity of both employers and workers.
Furthermore, Guidaben discussed about Maintaining Industrial Peace thru Labor Relations. He highlighted the importance of open communication between management and labor. He even cited an example about a complaint at the DOLE Bohol on non-releasing of certificate of employment. He noted that the said issue can be solved between both parties alone and not necessarily to reach the DOLE office.
During the open forum, participants cited their own examples and the speakers immediately responded. With this, many of the attendees commended the Council for organizing such event. Some even recommended for the Bohol-TIPC to conduct more learning sessions in the future. (H. Pizana)
