Leading this year’s officers of the Bohol Medical Society (BMS) is Dr. Kazan Benigno S. Baluyot, FPCP, FPCC who was sworn in recently as president, on the occasion of BMS’ 80th induction and awarding ceremonies.
Governor Edgar M. Chatto was the inducting officer and guest speaker held at the Shang Palace Seafood Restaurant last July 22, 2016.
Together with Dr. Baluyot are Dr. Mardy Fortich, vice-president; Dr. Seth Lim, secretary; Dr. Carmelita Amora, treasurer. The board of directors includes Dr. Marbert John Cardino, Dr. Joni Co, Dr. Mutya Kismet Macuno and Dr. Audrey Ramiro.
Outgoing 2015-2016 BMS presidentDr. Josephine Jabonillo was also recognized. Dr. Victor Allan Torrefranca, was conferred the “Most Outstanding Physician†award, while Dr. Conchita Lumapas, Dr. Fe Bongasia, Dr. RummelCagadas, Dr. Maria Theresa Martin and Dr. Nivardo Nacua each received citations for Top CME Attendance.
On the same occasion, Baluyot took the turn of inducting the new BMS members.He warmly welcomed them, citing their individual capacities as greatly contributory to the keeping of the BMS vision, mission and goals.
The BMS induction and awarding likewise converged the top officers of the Bohol chapters of the Association of Municipal Health Officers of the Philippines (AMHOP), Philippine Academy of Family Physicians (PAFP); Philippine College of Physicians (PCP); andBohol Child Health Care Advocates (BCHCA). It was also attended by Past PMA Governor, Dr. Disi Yap-Alba. The affair was emceed by Dr. RiaTeresita P. Maslog and Mr. Chandymar Araneta Batoy.
As a doctor, Kazan inarguably could have inherited his passion for life and mercy on the sick and the suffering from his very own mother, former long-time Bohol Red Cross administrator and now Philippine Gift of Life President and Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. FancyS. Baluyot. Dr. Kazan’s society affiliations include a member of the Philippine Heart Association, Inc.; Philippine College of Cardiology; Philippine College of Physicians / Philippine Medical Association; World Heart Federation; Asian Pacific Society of Cardiology; ASEAN Federation of Cardiologist; American Heart Association, American College of Cardiology and American College of Physicians. He is a visiting consultant at the Holy Name University Medical Center, Inc., Ramiro Community Hospital, Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital, Tagbilaran Community Hospital, and Englewood Hospital. He currently holds an office clinic at Borja Family Hospital.
He is also a consultant of the Philippine Gift of Life. Her mother likewise presently functions as the surgical and medical mission consultant to Gov. Edgar Chatto and Tagbilaran City Mayor, John Geesnell Yap II.
When asked about his programs and projects as the new BMS president, Dr. Baluyot said he intends to bring together and unite Bohol doctors to provide excellent medical services. He added that the BMS will strengthen camaraderie and fellowship.
