The town of Anda will likely be put under a state of calamity due to the municipality’s worsening water shortage problem.
According to Anda Mayor Inday Cimacio, she had requested the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) to pass a resolution which will place the town under a state of calamity and hasten efforts to mitigate the effects of the deficiency.
The move will allow the Anda local government unit to use the town’s calamity fund and seek aid in solving the water shortage.
Cimacio said that far-flung barangays, particularly in the northern part of the town, are heavily affected by the scarcity of water.
She noted that the water shortage is also causing problems in beach resorts at the coastal town which cater to many tourists.
Meanwhile, some farmers have already started to plant crops across Anda raising concerns on the availability of water supply for irrigation.
The mayor, however, bared that Governor Edgar Chatto had assured her that the provincial government will extend aid and help residents meet their water needs.
Cimacio had also previously denied accusations that the town’s water supply had mostly been directed toward resorts, which supposedly caused an abrupt shortage.
She claimed that the deficiency has been caused by the continued lack of rains and lingering heat in towns all over Bohol.
There are 16 barangays in the town of Anda and these are mostly dependent on water sources from mountains in surrounding areas. (Allen Doydora)
