A boy, 9, died in a drowning incident in a National Irrigation Administration dam in Sitio Tiwi, Brgy. Manaba, Garcia Hernandez.
The victim was identified as Mark Jamito, a grade four pupil at the Garcia Hernandez Central Elementary School.
According to municipal police, the incident happened at 3:30 p.m. on Monday as the victim and several friends were swimming in said dam.
Several minutes of being in the water, Jamito reportedly got into difficulties while swimming.
Some of Jamito’s companions were unable to save him in fear of also drowning while the others called for help.
Responding police officers rushed the victim to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Reports indicated that the elementary pupils skipped school to have a swimming session which led to the death of Jamito. (Allen Doydora)
