The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) in Tagbilaran CIty expressed concern over several attempts to swindle establishments in the city using Vice Mayor Jose “Toto” Veloso’s name.

Veloso, the SP’s presiding officer, said that the illegal operation which has been dragging his name involved making orders through telephone calls to various establishments in Tagbilaran City.

In the latest incident on Thursday, the suspect issued an indirect threat to an employee of the Gamot Publiko pharmacy along JA Clarin St. as the attempt to swindle the establishment faltered.

The unidentified caller who spoke in Tagalog reportedly asked the pharmacy attendant if they had bulletproof vests on as he was irked by the inaction of the employee.

Prior to the verbal altercation, the suspect reportedly ordered a bulk of medicine using Veloso’s name and asked for the transfer of cellphone load to two numbers worth P1000 each.

The swindle attempt was foiled as Veloso immediately denied having made such requests when the pharmacy attendant contacted the vice mayor’s office.

In a previous similar case, an unidentified caller ordered food worth P2,000 from Jollibee Plaza Marcela using Veloso’s name.

However, Veloso was surprised when the delivery was made as the vice mayor denied having made the order.

The food was sent back and Jollibee employees as per protocol reportedly covered the food’s payment.

Another similar incident happened at Pizza Hut in BQ Mall.

The suspect ordered food again worth P2000 but the attempt was foiled as the food chain’s crew immediately dismissed the call as a prank.
