COTABATO CITY, Oct. 29 (PNA) — A town mayor in North Cotabato was arrested by anti-drug police who served him search warrants at dawn Saturday, 24 hours after another mayor and his companions were killed in anti-drug operations in the province.

Supt. Romeo Galgo Jr., regional police spokesperson, said members of the Regional Anti-Illegal Drug Special Operations Task Force, Regional Public Safety Battalion and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency served 20 search warrants at 3 a.m. Saturday in three houses of Libungan Mayor Christopher Cuan in Barangay Kabayuran, Libungan, North Cotabato, about 30 km. north of here.

Galgo said the search warrants were issued by Judge Alandrex Betoya of Regional Trial Court Branch 16 in Kabacan, North Cotabato for the illegal possession of firearms and illegal drugs.

Recovered from Cuan’s home were an M-16 Armalite rifle, a 12-gauge shot gun, two caliber 45 pistols (Para 1911 and Colt), caliber 5.56 bushmaster and hundreds of ammunition and magazines for various calibers.

Cuan was not among the politicians named by President Rodrigo Duterte in his August announcement of alleged narco-politicians.

Galgo said Cuan will be committed to the court that issued the search warrants.

A day earlier, a special anti-drug police unit killed Mayor Samsodin Dimaukom of Datu Saudi Ampatuan and nine of his companions following a shootout in Barangay Bulatukan, Makilala, North Cotabato.

Dimaukom and his wife Arnida, vice mayor of Datu Saudi Ampatuan, were publicly named by President Duterte in August as narco-politicians.

Dimaukom, known in Maguindanao as the “Pink Mayor” for promoting the color as a “color of love and peace” and for building a Mosque that was painted pink, and his wife showed up at the Philippine National Police headquarters in Camp Crame to deny the allegations.
