KORONADAL CITY, Nov 3 (PNA) — Police anti-narcotics agents raided Thursday the residential house, piggery and six luxury cars of Mayor Albert Palencia of Banga, South Cotabato.
Armed with nine search warrants for firearms and prohibited drugs, the raiding team led by Supt. Maximo Sebastian, chief of Regional Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force (RAIDSOTF), barged inside the house of Palencia in Barangay Punong Grande, Banga, South Cotabato.
Palencia told reporters he was awakened by the noise created by the raiding team when they barged in at about 3:00 a.m.
“I was surprised, but they found no drugs or guns,†Palencia briefly told reporters as he was brought by the raiding team to Gen. Santos City.
But the raiding team found four bullets for cal. 380.
The raiding team also searched the mayor’s six cars and his piggery in nearby village. Piggery workers said they were asked where is the shabu laboratory.
“We were told to drop face down,†the caretaker said. “There’s no shabu lab here, what we have are swine and feeds.†A bullet was found in the piggery rest house.
Palencia has been accused of being a drug and gambling lord by his political rivals but he repeatedly denied it.
Last month, the anti-drug police unit raided the houses of two village chairs in Polomolok, South Cotabato.
He was the second mayor in Mindanao whose house was raided by anti-narcotics agents. The police also raided the house of Mayor Christopher Cuan of Libungan, North Cotabato last Saturday where guns and bullets were found.
The anti-drug police unit also raided the house of Mayor Samsudin Dimaukom of Datu Saudi Ampatuan, Maguindanao but the police found nothing.
Dimaukom and nine of his men were later killed in a police shootout in Makilala, North Cotabato. (PNA)
