The provincial government is set commemorate the birth anniversary of Bohol’s most illustrious son former President Carlos Polestico Garcia today.
Government officials led by Gov. Edgar Chatto and other attendees of the event will honor Garcia for his contributions to the province and the country through a commemorative program at the New Capitol Site and the Bohol Cultural Center (BCC).
The event known as the CPG Day will start with a ceremony at the New Capitol Site at 7:30 a.m. through a 21-gun salute and wreath laying at Garcia’s monument at the CPG Park.
A Eucharistic celebration will then follow at the BCC to open another set of activities, including the CPG Awards which, will be joined by Chatto, Vice Gov. Dioniso Balite, Atty. Fernando Campos, Cong. Rene Relampagos and Provincial Board members.
The CPG Awards which honors Boholanos with significant contributions to society will be recognizing Dr. Cristeta Tirol in the field of education, Emma Castillo for community Service, Val Anthony Uy for sports, Joseph Gara for arts in music, and Arsenio Lagura Jr. for arts in heritage.
Receiving special citations are Mister Supranational Philippines 2016 Alberto Dela Serna, son of former city barangay captain Glorivic Yap Dela Serna.
CPG scholars for schoolyear 2015-2016 will also be recognized during the event while Campos, secretary general of the CPG Foundation, Inc. will be delivering a speech for the Garcia family.
Other officials including guest speaker Efren Carreon, director of the National Economic and Development Authority in Central Visayas, Chatto and Chief Supt. Noli Taliño, Police Regional Office-7 director, will also be delivering speeches.
Meanwhile, a musical performance of Boholano songs by Gara will be aired on radio stations in the province.
On Saturday, a chess tournament will be held at the BQ Mall to honor Garcia who was also known for his proficiency in the game. (Rey Tutas)
