Tagbilaran City Vice Mayor Jose Antonio Veloso expressed support for the Davao City Sangguniang Panlungsod’s (SP) plan to establish a direct plane route connecting both cities.

Veloso on Monday said that the plan is a “welcome development” as the vice mayor noted that not having to pass through Cebu to reach both cities would be cheaper and more convenient.

However, Veloso said that there has been no formal correspondence yet with the Davao City government regarding the plan.

Earlier this year, the Davao City Council passed a resolution requesting for direct flights to and from Tagbilaran City in a bid to draw more tourists and investors.

The Davao City SP’s resolution appealed to President Rodrigo Duterte to extend support for efforts to materialize the plan.

It also urged the Department of Transportation and Communication, Department of Tourism and airline companies to conduct a feasibility study on the proposal.

According to Councilor Conrado Baluran, chair of the Davao City SP’s committee on transportation and communication, Bohol is one of the “most attractive tourism destinations in the country.”

Around 2,000 local and foreign tourists are expected to visit Bohol daily once the route is opened, based on tourism statistics and initial study. (Allen Doydora)
