Over four months into the Duterte administration’s war on narcotics trade, Dimiao Mayor Danilo Guivencan claimed that his town is now drug-free, becoming the first Bohol mayor to have publicly announced a successful anti-drug campaign.
According to Guivencan, his pronouncement was based on reports from the town’s Barangay Anti-drug Abuse Council, Municipal Anti-drug Abuse Council and municipal police which showed that illegal drug activities within the town have been eradicated.
Guivencan attributed the declared triumph over drug activities in Dimiao to the support of residents and barangay officials of the town.
He said that most of the drug personalities in Dimiao successfully urged to voluntarily surrendered under Oplan Tokhang.
Reports from various agencies in the municipality also indicated that drug supply significantly plummeted while both top level and smalltime drug dealers have either been arrested or have left the town.
All that remain, Guivencan added, are the drug activities in neighboring towns which continue to affect Dimiao.
Even with the perceived eradication of illegal drugs in Dimiao, Guivencan vowed that there will be no letup in the local government unit’s vigilance against narcotics trade.
He is also optimistic that the Bohol Provincial Police Office will officially declare the town drug-free. (Allen Doydora)
