A Boholano ranking executive of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) was shot dead while riding in his service car along Katipunan Avenue in Quezon City early Monday morning,
BIR Regional Director Jonas Amora of Makati City Revenue District 9 died on the spot together with his driver Angelito Pineda.
Eight gunshots hit the glass in front of Amora who was sitting on the passenger seat.
The shooting happened at the corner of Topsite and Katipunan shortly before 6 Monday morning.Â
The report said that when the white Toyota Innova of Amora reached the corner of Topsite and Katipunan Avenue, a man on a motorcycle went beside it and fired gunshots.
Amora died on the spot while Pineda was rushed to the Quirino Medical Center for treatment.
Amora’s body was found slumped on the passenger seat when police arrived.
Reports from the police said some P300,000 cash was found in possession of the BIR official. However, close kins of the slain BIR official could hardly believe he will bringing that huge amount.
Police has not issued a followup report on the motive behind the ambush. His remains lie in state at Arlington Funeral Home.
Amora, 56, was a self-made man who rose from the ranks at the BIR. He hails from Anda, Bohol.
He started as a low key personnel in Butuan City, where he was a working student while pursuing his college degree. According to those who knew the victim, Amora had no known enemy since he was kind and quiet.
He was a past president of the Anda Manila Residents and Employees Association (AMREA), an active Boholano association in Metro Manila.
