Boholano triathlete Atty. Ingemar Patiño Macarine, dubbed “Pinoy Aquaman,†accomplished yet another feat by swimming across the Canigao Channel on Sunday.
Macarine’s grueling six-hour journey started at President Carlos P. Garcia and ended 17 kilometers away in Maasin City, Leyte.
According to Macarine, he encountered strong currents particularly in the final seven-kilometer leg of his crossing when he went against the waves.
As noted in his Facebook post, Macarine said that it was his first time to swim for 17.1 kilometers as he travelled from Brgy. Tugas, CPG to Brgy. Guadalupe, Maasin.
Macarine’s journey was witnessed by 20 crew members and spectators who followed him in his excursion on board a boat.
The lawyer said that the 17.1-kilometer open water swim was intended to promote tourism in the town of Ubay and clean seas.
Macarine had previously swam from Pamilacan Island to mainland Baclayon, Balicasag Island to Panglao, in waters off Cebu and in other parts of the world.
He is a Surigao native who is currently the election officer of the Commission on Elections in Tubigon, Bohol. (Allen Doydora)Â
