Barely five years since a gruesome rape-slay of a lady cashier of a resort’s bar in Panglao, another gruesome murder shocks the tourism capital of Bohol.

After joining the assailants in a drinking session all night long, the victim turned up dead the morning after.

Personnel of the tourist police stationed in Panglao found the 30-year-old victim, Mayet Agonias, a native of barangay Taug in Valencia, at around 6 a.m. on November 20 lying on the lawn outside an abandoned resto-bar in barangay Tawala, Panglao, already dead.

The police officers found her head smashed by a large rock beyond recognition.

At around 2:30 p.m. on the same day, cops conducting a hot pursuit operation tracked down the suspects at their brother’s residence in barangay Alegria, Loboc.

Panglao chief of police, Chief Insp. Joemar Pomarejos, identified the suspects as the brothers, Jimmy Buaya, 26, and Joseph Buaya, 18, both from barangay Nueva Fuerza in Carmen who earned a living as construction workers in Panglao.

The suspects admitted to having killed Agonias out of severe drunkenness claiming that they “were not themselves.”

Investigators got hold of a closed-circuit television camera (CCTV) footage taken near the crime scene, showing that the Buaya brothers were with the victim before she was found dead.

Investigators also learned that the victim met the suspects in a drinking session the night before and they went home together toward a bunkhouse of a resort in Alona where the suspects worked for a construction project.

Pomarejos said they also investigate the rape angle after noting that the victim’s underwear was found inside the abandoned resto-bar while the body was located outside.

The suspects were also made to undergo drug test to determine if they were high on drugs while committing the crime.

A similar tragedy shocked Panglao in January 2012 where a 21-year-old security guard of a resort raped and killed a 23-year-old lady cashier of Bohol Divers Resort’s U-Bar.

The suspect, Erwin Escomo, claimed that he became close to the victim, Josephine Satore, in the months that they had worked in the same resort.

High on drugs, Escomo raped and killed Satore at around 5:30 a.m. when they were heading back to the staffhouse after jamming with friends the whole night at a bar in Tawala, Panglao, about a kilometer away from Bohol Divers Resort.

Estomo was from North Cotabato, while Satore was from Upper Bonbon in Loboc.

Escomo also admitted that the immediate option he had thought after killing Satore was to flee to Cebu that very morning to hide.

However, he was arrested and detained at Camp Dagohoy in Tagbilaran City that morning.
