The supposed simultaneous and nationwide sealing of gun muzzles for the holidays has been cancelled as ordered by the Philippine National Police (PNP) leadership.

Senior Insp. Vincent Dumaguing, Bohol police public information officer, said that service firearms of policemen will no longer be sealed, citing Camp Crame’s trust that the PNP is a disciplined organization.

The PNP issued a proposal to forgo the sealing of firearms for the Christmas and New Year’s celebrations and was approved by PNP chief Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa.

Dumaguing said that the move would also serve as protection for policemen during operations particularly as security forces remain under full alert status.

However, the police official clarified that the cancellation is not specifically related to the PNP’s war on drugs.

According to Dumaguing, should policemen fire their service guns during the holidays, they would still need to explain their usage of the weapon.

Policemen proven to have indiscriminately fired their guns would be facing punishment from the PNP. (Rey Tutas)
