A 48-year-old man was believed to have committed suicide at dawn on Monday outside his home in Barangay Taloto, Tagbilaran City after battling a severe case of insomnia.

The body of Chelo Machete was found hanging from a tree at 6 a.m. by his wife, police said.

According to Machete’s wife, she woke up with her husband already out of bed and upon searching their home, she discovered his lifeless body.

She immediately alerted TARSIER 117 personnel but the response team declared Machete dead when they arrived.

The wife said that Machete suffered from insomnia and was unable to sleep for almost a week.

Machete’s wife speculated that severe discomfort caused by the disorder may have pushed the victim to take his own life. (Allen Doydora)
