The municipal treasurer’s office inside the municipal hall of Anda lost around P300,000 in cash after it was allegedly burglarized by an unidentified suspect at past 2 a.m. on Monday.

According to SPO4 Ernesto Sagarino, officer-in-charge of the Anda Police Station, the suspect broke into the office amid heavy rains in the wee hours of the morning.

Sagarino said that two employees of the municipal hall identified as electrician Nerie Makinano and utility worker Ancieto Jañola discovered that the main door was already open at 4:30 a.m.

Based on the employees’ statements, the door of the treasurer’s office and the money’s case were forcibly opened.

However, the municipal hall’s main door was not opened by force.

Authorities noted that the suspect may have used a crowbar to open both the door and the case.

Only the money case of Anda treasurer Pedro Castrodes was opened but the box of another employee which contained a total of P200,000 in cash and check was left untouched.

Anda Mayor Angelina Simacio was reportedly out of town during the incident.

Meanwhile, police are continuing their investigation particularly on speculations that the burglary was an inside job.

Police have not yet released a statement regarding its review of footage from closed-circuit television cameras installed in the municipal hall. (Rey Tutas)
