The Department of Tourism (DOT) allocated P1.4 million for the development of potential tourist destinations in the town of Sikatuna such as the Sikatuna Tree Park, Inland Fishery Park and Lahug Cave.

Sikatuna Mayor Jose Ellorimo Jr. told DYRD Balita on Tuesday that the DOT through Bluewater Consultancy conducted an assessment of the said areas and other known tourist spots in the town.

The ten-man team led by Louie Mencias inspected multiple spots in the town to determine how these can be developed and promoted.

DOT officials also suggested the promotion of the ancestral houses in the town and abundant coconuts in the area by serving their juices instead of softdrinks to tourists.

According to Ellorimo, the DOT’s assistance would be of big help in the implementation of the local government unit’s projects which incidentally are also geared towards tourism growth.

Ellorimo said that the LGU has been looking to capitalize on the town’s tourism potential to promote development in its 10 barangays.

Currently, Sikatuna receives an average of 35 local tourists in a day and 10 foreign visitors in a month. (Rey Tutas)
