Governor Edgar Chatto on Friday expressed grief for the passing of Department of Tourism (DOT) 7 director Catalino Chan III and offered sympathy to his family.
Chatto announced Chan’s death and asked for prayers from the public in his speech during the 141st founding anniversary of Antequera town where he was one of the guests of honor.
The director of the Central Visayas DOT died at the Perpetual Succour Hospital in Cebu City on Thursday afternoon two days after he was rushed to said hospital due to a heart attack.
Chan had only served as the top DOT official in the region for 2 months.
He was once a tour guide in Cebu before rising through the ranks and becoming a tourism officer for the province of Camiguin.
Chan, a graduate of the University of San Carlos, was then promoted as director of DOT Northern Mindanao (Region 10).
Chan’s remains will be taken From Cebu City to Cagayan de Oro on Sunday, where he will lie in state until March 21.
He will then be flown out to his hometown of Mambajao, Camiguin where he will be buried. (Rey Tutas)
