A woman who allegedly abducted a 2-year-old girl in Barangay Tawala, Panglao last week was charged with kidnapping on Monday.
According to Panglao police desk officer PO1 Mark Villanueva Yana, the case was filed before the Tagbilaran City Prosecutor’s Office despite the suspect’s refusal to identify herself.
Authorities believe that the suspect could be suffering from a mental illness but this is yet to be verified.
On Friday last week, the suspect allegedly grabbed and fled with the victim who was walking with her sister, 4, along the side of the road at past 6 p.m.
The victim’s sister reportedly shouted for help alerting nearby residents who ran after the suspect.
They were able to subdue the suspect and retrieve the victim unharmed, police said.
According to authorities, the suspect was muddied and barefoot when she was taken to the police station.
Police were having difficulty in communicating with the suspect who refused to give out her name and whose speech was incomprehensible.
The alleged kidnapper is still detained at the lock-up jail of the Panglao police while authorities look for a psychiatrist who will determine her mental state. (Allen Doydora)
