A suspected usher and bettor of the illegal numbers game locally known as “swertres†were arrested on Thursday amid the Tagbilaran City Police Station’s (TCPS) intensified drive against illegal gambling.
Mansueto Bulac, 59, was allegedly caught by police issuing an improvised tally sheet to Celendio Aliňabon, 33, at the corner of J.S. Torralba and Hontanosas Streets in Tagbilaran City.
The operatives led by TCPS deputy chief Sr. Insp. Eraňo Regidor reportedly set up the operation after receiving reports on men engaging in illegal numbers game activities in the said area at 3:15 p.m.
Regidor and other policemen immediately rounded up both suspects after allegedly witnessing the transaction between the two and catching them in possession of swertres paraphernalia.
The TCPS operatives confiscated from Bulac and Aliňabon suspected bet money of P175 and bet stab with illegal numbers game combination digits.
Both men will be charged for violating Republic Act 9287 known as An Act Increasing the Penalties for Illegal Numbers Games which was approved in 2004. (Weli Maestrado and Jumarie Loquez, HNU MassComm intern)
