Boholano Mark “Magnifico†Magsayo remained undefeated as he pummeled his Tanzanian foe on his way to a first round technical knockout (TKO) victory at the Pinoy Pride 40: Domination on Saturday.
Magsayo, 21, improved his immaculate record to 16-0-0 against Issa Nampepeche who now holds a 24-8-4 record after their 12-round bout at the Waterfront Hotel & Casino in Cebu City.
The victory also earned Magsayo his 12th knockout win in 16 professional fights.
In Magsayo’s return trip to Tagbilaran City, his hometown, he was welcomed by Mayor John Geesnell Yap who also took pride in the Boholano’s victory.
Under the same fight card, Donnie “Ahas” Nietes defeated Thailand’s Komgrich Nantapech to win the IBF world flyweight championship.
Nietes became the third Filipino who won championships in three different weight divisions, joining Manny Pacquiao and Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire.
Earlier, Michael Aldeguer of ALA Promotions, Magsayo’s promoter, told ABS-CBN news that they are not rushing the boxer’s development but noted that big fights are on the horizon for the young fighter. (Allen Doydora)
