The magnitude 5.6 quake which hit some parts of the province yesterday was hardly felt by Boholanos even as it was reported to be the strongest, so far, among the 18 of tectonic origin that jolted Bohol in two months.
Phivolcs Director Renato Punongbayan in a conversation with Gov. Edgar Chatto said the intensity was very minimal since the quake’s movement was 551 kms down the ground level. Thus, it was not felt. There was almost zero intensity felt in Bohol but in terms of magnitude at 5.6 is the strongest among the 19s quake this year. However, he confirmed it was the strongest in magnitude
Preceding yesterday’s quake was a magnitude 2.7 ground shaking traced to 8 kms. north of 12 degrees east of Jagna and placed in Phivolcs bulletin at 6:14 p.m. on May 19 with depth of two kms.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) bulletin shows Anda registered the most number of quakes since April and up to yesterday with four occurrences.
Phivolcs recorded yesterday’s quake at 9:06 a.m. and traced its epicenter to 19 kilometers south from 19 degrees east of Lila with depth of 567 kms.
It was also felt in the neighboring areas, Loay and Dimiao
Preceding yesterday’s quake was a magnitude 2.7 ground shaking traced to 8 kms. north of 12 degrees east of Jagna and placed in Phivolcs bulletin at 6:14 p.m. on May 19 with depth of two kms.
Phivolcs also recorded a magnitude 2.2 quake at 7:56 p.m. on May 18 with depth of 32 kms and traced to 1 km. north of 40 degrees east of San Isidro town.
On May 16, Phivolcs recorded two magnitude 2 quakes traced from Anda radius. The first was at 9:27 a.m. with depth of seven kms. 21 kms. north at 54 degrees from east of the town. Another one followed at 9:44 a.m. with depth of six kms. with epicenter at 14 kms. south of town’s eastern part at 81 degrees.
Phivolcs also recorded two quakes from Anda radius in April. The one recorded at 12:36 p.m. on April 4 was a magnitude 2.6 ground shaking with depth of three kilometers and traced to 21 kms. south of east of the town at 70 degrees direction. The next one was a magnitude 2.4 at 2:14 a.m. on April 26 with depth of 27 kms. traced to 25 kms. south of east of Anda at 23 degrees direction.
Phivolcs recorded two successive quakes on May 15. The first was a magnitude 2.4 at 9:05 a.m. with depth of 32 kms., its epicenter traced to seven kms. north by 20 degrees east of Maribojoc. Another one followed at 9:06 a.m. at magnitude 2.3 with depth of 34 kms. with epicenter traced six kms. south by 81 degrees from east of Loon.
On May 7, Phivolcs recorded a magnitude 2.3 quake at 12:34 a.m. with depth of 32 kms., and traced to 11 kms. south by 44 degrees from west of Loon.
On May 5, Phivolcs recorded two quakes from Tagbilaran City radius, one at 12:20 a.m. and the other at 4:56 a.m. The first was at magnitude 3 with depth of six kms., 16 kms. north from west of the city by 15 degrees. The second was at magnitude 2.6 with depth of 2.6 kms., 12 kms. north from west of the city by 39 degrees.
There were six more preceding quakes recorded in April.
The first was at 3:33 a.m. on April 3 at magnitude 3.2 with depth of four kms., traced nine kms. south from east of Buenavista.
The next one was at 4:02 p.m. on April 11 at magnitude 2.9 with depth of 13 kms., at four kms. north from east of Balilihan.
Phivolcs recorded another one at 1:23 p.m. on April 21 at magnitude 2 with depth of 23 kms. and traced to 45 kms, north of west of Garcia-Hernandez.
This was followed by a magnitude 2.3 quake at 1:27 a.m. on April 22 which had depth of 11 kms. at four kms. north of west of Loon.
The epicenters of the last two quakes in April were traced in the adjacent towns of Buenavista and Danao.
The one traced 12 kms. north by 84 degrees from east of Buenavista was recorded at 5:02 p.m. on April 27 at magnitude 2.7 and with depth of 14 kms.
The next one was a magnitude 1.9 with depth of 28 kms. and traced five kms. north by 26 degrees from east of Danao.
