The Provincial Board (PB) on Friday officially honored the fallen Boholano Marine Corps soldier who was killed in the continued clashes between government troops and Maute Group terrorists in Marawi City.
Board Members cited the heroism of Corporal John Romulo Garcia through a resolution passed during the PB’s regular session this morning which was led by Vice Gov. Dionisio Balite.
Meanwhile, the PB members also expressed their condolences to the slain soldier’s close relatives who are natives of San Miguel town.
The provincial legislators are set to personally offer their final respects to Garcia at the wake held at the family’s home in Barangay Kagawasan before the marine will be laid to rest on Saturday.
Earlier, “Foyer Honors” were accorded by the 47th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army to Garcia when his remains arrived at the Tagbilaran City Airport on Tuesday.
His body was transported from the Marine headquarters at Fort Bonifacio in Taguig City.
Garcia was among the 13 marines who were killed during the 14-hour clash between security forces and the Maute Group last week.
The 28-year-old soldier was the eldest among five siblings and a graduate of the Central Visayas State College of Agriculture Forestry and Technology in Tagbilaran City.
