Boholano teen wins silver in int’l math olympiad in Vietnam

A Boholano Grade 11 student bagged a silver medal in the recently concluded World Mathematics Invitational Finals at Ton Duc Thang University in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Vittorio Gabriele Po-Acusar of Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu was among thousands of contestants representing 10 countries from across the globe who participated the competition held from July 14 to 18.

Po-Acusar was the lone representative from a Cebu school who joined the 41-member Philippine team.

Vitto, as he is fondly called, is the eldest son of Dr. Imelda R. Po and Dr. Walter C. Acusar and a grandson of Alfredo Y. Po (Saya) and Marcelina L. Relampagos (Sinang), owners of Saya’s Restaurant in Tagbilaran City.

He has been an honor student since first grade and graduated Valedictorian in elementary school.

Previously, he also  joined and won in several math contests held in Manila, Singapore, Korea, Thailand and China.

The participation of the Philippine team was supported by the Asian Math Sci League, Inc. (AMSLI) the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI).
